GREED
What is your most expensive book? What is your least expensive book?
Most Expensive:
Title: Lost Girls
Authors: Alan Moore and Melinda Gebbie
This is a hardback, full colour, HUMONGOUS cloth-covered book/graphic novel. It is gorgeous and sumptuous and I love it so much. It cost around £45/ $65. Definitely the raunchiest book I own though- be warned! Cunnilingus and lesbian orgies abound. It is the coming-of-age stories of Dorothy (Wizard of Oz), Alice (Alice in Wonderland) and Wendy (Peter Pan). They tell the stories we know so well but very much changed to reveal their sexual experiences. It is fascinating.
Least Expensive Book:
Title: Eating Animals
Author: Jonathon Safran Foer
Aside from the books I have gotten for free for various reasons, I would have to say this book I bought recently second hand. It has serious water damage so I think someone must've dropped it in the bath or something! I wouldn't have got it if I didn't love JSF so much...but I couldn't just leave it there to perish...alone! It cost 5 pence. Which is practically negative money.
WRATH
Which author do you have a love/hate relationship with?
I'm not sure really. I am loyal to the authors I love. I am annoyed with Donna Tartt for not publishing more books because 'The Secret History' is one of my favourite books of all time. Also, Rosamunde Pilcher's novels after 'The Shell Seekers' weren't for me so I was upset by that as I love that book.
GLUTTONY
What book have you deliciously devoured over and over with no shame whatsoever?
So many. When I was younger I would re-read books over and over again.
Harry Potter/ Enid Blyton books/ Roald Dahl books/ The Shell Seekers/ Sweet Valley Twins, High/ Jane Eyre/ Pride and Prejudice/ Jacqueline Wilson books/ Anne of Green Gables series: there were all on my rotation list. I have no shame about anything I have read; reading is to be encouraged in young'uns I think no matter what the book is!
SLOTH
What book have you neglected reading due to laziness?
A lot! I did an English Literature degree at Uni and when I know I have to read something I put it off so much even if I am enjoying what I read so far. Hardcore rebel I know. So I didn't end up finishing a lot of the material I was supposed to read, such as the biggun: 'Ulysses' by James Joyce. I will read it one day. Also, Paradise Lost. Nearly made it. Just missed.
Personal reading wise, 'House of Leaves' by Mark Danielewski is a book I REALLY want to read but can't be arsed because of how humongous and complicated it seems everytime I opened it. Also, I love the first page which just has these words right in the centre of the page, 'This is not for you.' CREEPY. 'The 13 and a Half Lives of Captain Bluebear' is another beast of a book that I never get around to. Again, it looks AMAZING and I wish I had time/the motivation to read it.
PRIDE
What book do you most talk about in order to sound like a very intellectual reader?
I don't do it now (I hope) but when I was doing my degree I had to talk about lots of hoity-toity books and essays in order to make myself look good and get good grades (we were marked on our contribution in seminars among other things). I do love literary theorists such as Michel Foucault, Roland Barthes, Virginia Woolf, Louis Althusser, Julia Kristeva, Lacan, Judith Butler, Eve Sedgwick, Adrienne Rich, Gilbert and Gubar, T.S Eliot and Ezra Pound but I avoid talking about them IRL because even their names make you sound instantly pretentious! Woolf and Eliot not so much depending on which work you're discussing..but the others need to stay strictly in Uni!
LUST
What attributes do you find most attractive in male or female characters?
I just want Mr Rochester from 'Jane Eyre'. He is older, devilishly intelligent, passionate, rough around the edges, confident, authoritative, shouty and loves Jane Eyre to death. So sexy. Although don't look in his attic. We'll ignore that.
Girls-wise Elizabeth Bennet is kinda my perfect female character. She is witty, smart, spontaneous, sarcastic, funny and full of fun mixed with a vulnerability, sweetness and down-to-Earth-ness that is so likeable. She has a sparkle in her eye and no insta-love for her. I INSTA LOVE HER.
ENVY
What books would you most like to receive as a gift?
I have it on good authority that I am to receive 'Tree of Codes' as a present next week which is a book I have wanted for aggges but it is so expensive considering it'll probably take half an hour to read. It if by Jonathan Safran Foer, and he has kinda make the book into a piece of art by cutting bits out- the book is full of holes! As to other books I would like as a gift; my Amazon wishlist is 38 pages long and pretty much all books. I am chipping away at it but if anyone ever asks what gift I want I direct them there.
i like this, it's a good way to really get to know the bloggers. Some of your answers sound like what I would answer. I love so many books that it would be kind of hard to do this though. Thanks so much for sharing

Haha, I have exactly the same problem with Donna Tartt, I loved The Secret History and The Little Friend and I am desperate for her to publish something else!
ReplyI still have to read Foucault, Sedgwick, Freud, Butler and all those other folk, to the point where they make my brain hurt! So as it's Friday night, I shall block them from my mind for the time being. :)
Oh my goodness, I LOVE this post! It's so much fun, and totally makes you think. I'm totally with you on gluttony and lust! I've read Roald Dahl and Harry Potter probably more than any other books ever. And I totally used to get hoity toity about books when I was younger and still cared about that sort of thing. :P
ReplyCan I just say that I am so glad you chose the Toby Stephens Mr. Rochester? I love Michael Fassbender, and in a lot of ways I loved the recent movie, but it felt unnecessary! That BBC version is just so great!
ReplyI love this font! It is so quirky and unique!
