Why I Loved It: During school we read four Shakespeare plays: 'Romeo and Juliet', 'Macbeth', 'Hamlet' and 'King Lear'. 'King Lear' was my favourite because the characters just popped for me, and the sheer nastiness of Lear's elder daughters always stayed with me. Lear's descent into madness is really moving too.

Author: Roald Dahl
Why I Loved It: 'The Landlady' is a short story by Roald Dahl that I first read in school and LOVED! It is unbelievably sinister and creepy and I love the ambiguous ending SO MUCH!

Why I Loved It: This book is passionate and beautiful! I remember staying up all night to finish it and being really tired the next day for school. I have read it many times since: it is just wonderful. Catherine and Hareton FTW.

Why I Loved It: I have made no secret of how much I adore Angela Carter and this book in particular! It is glorious, riotous fun and has the most amazing characters and magical realism that make it really memorable. I really need to give it a re-read!
